A lot of businesses take time to “regroup” in August to get ready for back-to-school. Wait? Did I read that right? Yes. Yes, you did. Summer may be almost over, but that’s just the more reason to grab your kids and make some summer memories to last the whole school year. Bloody, Bloody Andrew Jackson — 2:00 & 8:00 p.m. // Original musical at Casa Mañana depicting the early life of our founding father, Andrew Jackson. Recommended for ages 13 and up. 

August 4 – 25

Friday Movie Matinee — 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. // Beat the heat with free Friday matinees at the Hurst public library. New release movies will be shown and, bonus: Free popcorn!

August 9 & 16 

Big Kid Art Classes — 12:00 – 2:30 p.m. // Calling all tweens! Come down to Hurley House for an introductory lesson into collage. For ages 12 and up. 

August 11 – September 2

The Land of Oz — Friday, Saturday, & Sunday – 9:00 p.m. //  Puppetry, physical theatre, and music bring back to life the children’s classic in an adaptation that follows Tip on his adventures through the land of Oz. Put on at the Silver Creek Amphitheatre.

August 5

Animal Exploration — 11:00 – 11:45 a.m. // Discover the habits and adaptations of a native animal during a live animal observation with a River Legacy naturalist. 

August 12

Children’s Learning Adventure Sneak Peek — 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. // Bring your kids to Children’s Learning Adventure’s Sneak Peek days to see if its preschool or afterschool programs would be a good fit for your family. 

Backyard Composting — 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. // Teach your young kids about the importance of keeping the Earth green through composting at the River Legacy Living Science Center. 

Nature Walk — 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. // Explore the nature trails surrounding the River Legacy Living Science Center on a guided Nature Walk.

August 19

Saturday Storytime — 11:00 – 11:45 a.m. // Come to the River Legacy Living Science Center to hear a story read by a librarian from one of the Arlington Public Libraries. Stay after the reading for a fun craft or activity!
