Dr. Ramon Kinloch

Dr. Ramon Kinloch studied medicine at Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, D.C. and completed his residency at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. One of the most important things that he tells parents, especially new parents, is that their child needs three things to grow: food, sleep, and love. Sometimes, he feels like a big kid at heart, too. “There’ll be times on the weekends where my wife and I will get up and watch Saturday morning cartoons and eat cereal so during the week I can talk about the cartoon episodes that come on with the little children.”

He is self-described as easygoing and laid-back and just likes to have fun with the family and children. He sees himself as part of the team that cares for the child. “We really are an extension of the family, and I take that to heart.”

A mother of three, Melissa O’Neill is a registered nurse who specialized in NICU for more than 12 years, and has now focused on infant care and sleep education for more than four years. A dedicated professional, she is a tremendous source of information for new parents and is passionate about sharing her knowledge about the best possible baby care. O’Neill founded Newborn Nightingales in 2012 and is committed to helping parents establish a nurturing, caring, and calm environment. She places only the most qualified nurses and Nightingales, training all of her team members on best practices for developmentally appropriate newborn care and sleep training.

During Bloom 2018, you can choose from TWO workshops presented by local experts. We’ve curated topics dealing with postpartum issues to handling the infant stage to tackling all the toddlerhood has to offer. You select your two workshop choices during registration.

Developmental Milestones: When to Be Concerned :: Dr. Jennifer Gittleman and Dr. Devona Martin

Being a new mom is stressful and determining whether your child is developing at the appropriate level can be even more stressful these days when everyone is comparing their child to everyone else. Every child is unique but there are baseline skills that experts have determined children should be meeting within specific age ranges. Attend this workshop to hear Cook Children’s pediatricians discuss major milestones that your baby or toddler should be hitting from newborn stage up through age 2. You’ll also learn about warning signs for developmental delays and when and what to do about those.

Dr. Gittleman graduated with honors from Rutgers University with a B.A. in biology and psychology. She then went on to medical school at Rowan University; she completed her residency training at AI DuPont Hospital for Children in Delaware, and she is now board-certified in pediatrics.

Dr. Martin joined the Willow Park practice in 2016 after working as a hospitalist at Cook Children’s Medical Center since 2012. She grew up in east Texas and attended Baylor University. Her medical training was at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock. She completed her pediatric residency training at Texas Tech, where she served as chief resident.

Discipline During the Early Years :: Dr. Kim Mangham

There is no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to disciplining your child. But, there are some definite do’s and don’ts that will help now and will also set your child up for success in the future. Attend this session hosted by Cook Children’s experts to learn realistic strategies on when and how to appropriately discipline your child.

Dr. Kim Mangham earned her medical degree at University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. She completed the pediatric residency program at University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City and is board-certified in pediatrics.

Handling Sleep Regressions and Transitions :: Melissa O’Neill

There are many potentials for regressions the first few years. Your little one is changing so fast and if you are prepared for changes, anticipate needs, start well rested, make an appropriate plan, and stay consistent, your sweet baby or toddler will be back to sleeping well soon. Regardless of age or type of regression, this five-step process will get you headed back in the right direction.

A mother of three, O’Neill is a registered nurse who specialized in NICU for more than 12 years, and has now focused on infant care and sleep education for more than four years.

Oral Health for Little Ones :: Dr. Liz Gold and Dr. Jerod Brazeal

All you have ever wanted to know about the “firsts” for teeth and oral health. This session will discuss dental care for the first two years of life. Dr. Gold will answer: When should I expect teeth to come in? How do I clean my child’s teeth? When should my child see the dentist? And so much more!

Dr. Liz Gold is a pediatric dentist, who graduated from Texas A&M University in 2006 with a degree in Biomedical Science and then proceeded to dental school at the University of Texas Dental Branch at Houston where she graduated with her DDS degree in 2010. She did a residency in pediatric dentistry in Houston and finished in 2012.

Dr. Brazeal is a graduate of Texas A & M and the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio where he earned his dental degree. He was selected to complete his residency in pediatric dentistry at UT Health Science Center in San Antonio and Children’s Hospital in San Antonio.

Postpartum Expectations :: Dr. Ingrid Kohlmorgen

Dr. Kohlmorgen will discuss the time immediately surrounding delivery as well as what can be expected in the days, weeks, and months post delivery. She will cover topics related to the health of both mom and baby. Questions will be encouraged and no topic is “off limits.”

Dr. Ingrid Kohlmorgen, M.D. is an experienced and dedicated Diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology practicing in Fort Worth, Texas.  She has a passion for women’s healthcare throughout all the stages of life, from adolescence through the childbearing years to menopause.  After completing medical school in 1990 at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston (now the McGovern Medical School), she went on to do her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in Oklahoma City which she completed in 1994.

Toddlers at the Table: Transitions and Nutrition :: Dr. Justin Smith and Kathy Soland

How do you know if your toddler is getting enough calories or eating a balanced diet? What’s the best way to lay the foundation for healthy eating habits? How should you handle a picky eater or tantrums at the dinner table? What are some early warning signs of feeding problems and when should you seek help from a professional? Get all these answers and more in this session hosted by a Cook Children’s feeding therapist and pediatrician.

Dr. Smith grew up in a small town outside of Abilene, Texas. He attended University of Texas, Southwestern Medical School and did his pediatric training at Baylor College of Medicine. He joins Cook Children’s after practicing in his hometown of Abilene for four years. He has a particular interest in development, behavior, and care for children struggling with obesity. In his spare time, he enjoys playing with his three young children, exercising, reading, and writing about parenting and pediatric health issues.

Kathy Soland, speech pathologist at Cook Children’s, has 35 years of experience as a speech/language pathologist and regularly works with children of all ages who experience feeding issues, ranging from picky eaters to more severe diagnoses.
