We braved some frigid temperatures and the back-to-school shock after the holidays. Is anyone else feeling antsy and like it’s time to get the kids out of the house? (Have you considered sending them to preschool or mom’s day out? We have a guide for that.) There’s something for every member of your household happening in February, from nature walks to monster truck racing! February 1 – 3

Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo — 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. // A variety of events wraps up this weeks-long series of public livestock competitions, exhibitions, and entertainment.

Moo-seum Experience — Admission to the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History permanent galleries is included with purchase of a Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo general admission ticket. Also enjoy admission to the Cattle Raisers Museum and the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame.

February 3

Art of the Chisholm Trail: Themed Tour — 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. // Meet at the information desk of the Amon Carter Museum of American Art and move to the galleries to view and discuss western works connected to the life of the open-range cowboy. Then visit the library to check out a display of associated archival material, including the preliminary watercolor sketch for the three-story Richard Haas mural in downtown Fort Worth that commemorates the city’s segment of The Chisholm Trail cattle drives.

Day Hike at the FW Nature Center — 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. // Join the Greater Fort Worth Sierra Club at the service center parking lot to embark on a four- to five-mile hike. Bring your own water, snacks, and rain gear. Refuge entrance fee required.

Team FED-UP chili cook-off — 12:00 – 8:00 p.m. (while supplies last) // Kids are welcome to the family-friendly tap room of HopFusion Ale Works. Competitors — including Pouring Glory, Bearded Lady, Alma’s Paleteria, Bentley’s, and Melt Ice Cream (Mary Beavers) — will serve up chili alongside HopFusion beers (for the adults, of course) while raising funds to help support the team ride more than 150 miles in the Bike MS: Round-up Ride 2018. 

February 9 

Artisan Center Theater presents: The Wizard of Oz — 7:30 – 10:00 p.m. // Come to the Artisan Center Theater in Hurst for the opening night of the musical based on the 1939 film starring Judy Garland. Performances run through March 17.

February 10

Monster Jam — 7:00 p.m. // World-class drivers compete at Arlington’s AT&T Stadium in both monster truck racing and freestyle competitions.

Nature Walk — 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. // Explore the nature trails surrounding the River Legacy Living Science Center on a guided nature walk.

Victorian Paper Crafting Class — 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. // Bring the kids to the Log Cabin Village and earn about 19th century paper crafting, including an introduction to scherenschnitte paper cutting and other techniques (perfect for making valentines)! Limit two children, nine years and older, per adult.

February 11

Chocolate Lovers Unite — 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. // Crazy about chocolate? Join other chocolate lovers in A Tasteful Place Test Pavilion at the Dallas Arboretum to learn how to make chocolate recipes from A to Z, putting your culinary creativity to the test. 

February 17

Nature & Animals with the Fort Worth Symphony — 1:00 – 1:45 p.m. // Bring your little ones to the Central Fort Worth Library to learn about the cycle of the four seasons and discover how composers use music to create the sounds of nature, from a stormy summer day to the falling snow in winter.

February 19

Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood LIVE: King for a Day! — 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. // Based on the popular TV series, this show is in its third year of touring. Daniel and all of his friends invite you for a brand-new adventure in Neighborhood of Make-Believe where Daniel learns just what it takes to be king. Expect new songs to sing along to, magical moments, and SURPRISE guests along the way! 

February 23 – 24

UT Arlington Jazz Festival — This family-friendly event, held in the Hereford University Center on the UT Arlington (UTA) campus, will feature jazz performances from local schools and UTA’s very own jazz faculty, jazz orchestra, and the jazz ensemble. 

February 24

Chili Cook Off at Wild Acre Brewing — 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. // Bring the family to this chili cook-off event benefiting BrothersKeepers, Kids Who Care Musical Theatre, and Cuisine For Healing. 

Grand Prairie Kid’s Fishing Day — 12:00 – 4:00 p.m. // The lagoon in Mike Lewis Park will be stocked with rainbow trout by the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department for this free event for children 16 years and younger. 

The Music of Harry Potter, presented by FWSO — 2:00 – 4:30 p.m. // Don your Hogwarts attire (or your muggle clothes) and bring the kids to a family-friendly concert featuring music from the Harry Potter films. Experience highlights from the soundtracks to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban featuring music by Academy Award-winning composer John Williams.

February 25

Best Summer Ever — 12:00 – 3:00 p.m. // Come to this free event at the Botanical Research Institute of Texas to learn more about local and national camps, meet with schools and educators, sign up for extra-curriculars, and plan your family summer vacation.
