2018 Preschool Guide

Disclosure :: The “2018 Guide to Preschools and Parents’ Day Out” is brought to you by the Fort Worth Moms Blog and the many school sponsors listed in this post. Thank you to our sponsors who made this guide possible! We hope it is a helpful resource as you make schooling decisions for your young children. Additional area preschools are listed at the end of this guide.

What’s the #1 question we are asked??? What preschools do you recommend? Moms want to know the options, where others send their kids, and what educational philosophy those schools abide by. So, we compiled a list of Tarrant County schools that are great options for your little ones. You’ll find a variety of curriculum choices, pricing options, and time slots.

Also, consult our “How to Pick a Preschool” article for tips to consider when making your decision.

Arborlawn Children’s Academy is a Christian-based school readiness preschool that focuses on the social, emotional, spiritual, and intellectual development of the young child. It provides children an active learning experience in which they discover, create, explore, and participate in God’s world. All classrooms use Frog Street curriculum implementing Conscious Discipline for classroom management and social-emotional components of the curriculum. Children participate in weekly chapel and have a weekly music class with a music teacher. The small class sizes ensure that each child receives individual attention and learning opportunities through large and small group instruction. Arborlawn Children’s Academy also focuses on a color, shape, and math concept each month. The school closely follows the FWISD school schedule. Classes are in session September through May. Located in North Richland Hills, the Fort Worth Christian Preschool for 3-year-olds offers an academic and structured learning program with a very low 6:1 child/teacher ratio. The goal for the teachers is to show your child that they are known, loved and valued! Children will learn through movement (alphabet yoga, dancing, and station learning), music (Frog Street alphabet songs, chapel songs, music class), writing and cutting, videos (educational science and alphabet for visual learners), tactile learning (using PlayDoh, Legos or sand to write and make letters), hands-on science (through experiments and expressive art projects) and Sensory (cooking on Friday and plenty of outside lessons). The staff work hard to give your child a proper balance of play, outside time, and academic instruction. In addition, the Preschool “Little Cardinals” get to integrate in supervised community with the rest of the school through pep rallies, servant leadership buddies from the High School, Elementary chapel and grade-level fine arts performances. FWC Preschool is a great way to begin your child’s educational journey, continuing into PreK, Kindergarten and through 12th grade at Fort Worth Christian School. Each year there are several FWC high school seniors who started their education in the preschool program. This is what it means to be part of the FWC Family!

“Learning through play, growing with God.” The preschool and mother’s day out programs at Arlington Heights United Methodist Church provide for the growth and development of the whole child. This approach emphasizes interrelated areas such as intellectual, social, physical, spiritual, and emotional development. Emphasis is placed on meeting the needs of individual children in a group setting. Each child experiences success and positive feelings of self-worth at his or her level of maturity. A Christian environment rich in opportunities for growth fosters a love for learning. Special enrichment activities like chapel, soccer, music, and Spanish help to round out the curriculum.

Mildred Haupt Preschool focuses on play-based learning rather than a traditionally academic approach. The classrooms are not overly structured and allow children the opportunity to select from several activities and play either alone or in small groups. The teachers work to help students develop appropriate social skills including communication, sharing, listening, and empathy, while also equipping them with the academics necessary for succeeding in kindergarten and beyond.

Nature’s playground is perfect for preschool learning! Inspired by their own natural curiosity, children ages three to six explore the natural world through nature walks, stories, art, song, and dramatic play at River Legacy’s Nature School. When children explore the nature trails winding through the forested grounds, classrooms come alive. These hands-on adventures will turn the forest into a fabulous outdoor learning lab for your young scientist! Opportunities to encounter ladybugs, snails, earthworms, opossums, native wildflowers, and so much more build their understanding of nature’s diverse life forms.

Children attend Nature School classes one day a week for 30 weeks, from September through May. A two-day-a-week Tuesday/Thursday class is offered for four year olds. An extended day program specifically geared for five or six year olds not yet enrolled in kindergarten is offered one day a week. Small classes of nine to 12 students with highly qualified teachers in each classroom ensure lots of individual attention and set your child on a path to love learning! Using nature as the foundation, the inquiry-based curriculum introduces age-appropriate science, math and literacy skills. Nature School serves as a great supplement to another preschool, mom’s day out, kindergarten, or homeschool program. For more information or to register, please call or visit River Legacy’s website.

  1. Do y’all ever check the licensing status of these preschools? They’re supposed to be licensed if they’re operating a full five days a week, but I know for a fact that St. Christopher’s in Fort Worth is not licensed.

  2. I really appreciate this 2018 Guide to Preschools which you have written for us. I love the way you have presented each department if it is how you call it. From each age bracket, detailed information has been provided. I have a four-year-old kid, our youngest, whom I know will enjoy being enrolled this year. Thanks a lot!

  3. Just an FYI. St. Christopher’s is listed. It’s under Saint and you can also find them using the zip code search. We considered sending our son there and I research all places we visit.
