Gluten-Free Local Restaurant Bucket List

There are so many local establishments offering gluten-free options. A few of my favorites so far: I Heart Muffins, Max’s Wine Dive, and Trulee.

My journey into the world of gluten-free eating is a relatively new venture. While breastfeeding my youngest daughter she showed signs of food sensitivities. I cut dairy and gluten from my diet, and while I can’t prove it helped her, I felt better than I ever have! So, here I am, diving belly-flopping into the world of G-free.

Eating out with my new restrictions has proven to be difficult. We are a family who loves our food, but we’ve had to abandon several of our favorite restaurants because they don’t have gluten-free options. Now, with a little research, I am learning that Fort Worth, and all of the communities interwoven between here and Dallas, have so much to offer!

Join me as I check off this bucket list of local gluten-free restaurants.

Savory

From Across the Pond (North Richland Hills): “Most extensive gluten-free menu in Texas,” including fish and chips! Yes please!

Taverna (Fort Worth): Italian food with the option to substitute GF noodles or dough for main dishes and pizza.

HG Supply Co. (Fort Worth): This place has just been bumped to the top of my bucket list! ALL items can be prepared gluten and dairy free (and are beautiful to look at, seriously, check out its website! I may cry).

Spiral Diner and Bakery (Fort Worth): Self-described as “vegan comfort food.” Dear, Spiral, you had me at cake.

Carrabbas Italian Grill (Hurst): This was one of our favorites before I made the switch, now that I know it has a dedicated gluten-free menu — we will be going more often.

Velvet Taco (Fort Worth): We are big fans of this local taco haven — because tacos. They have so much adventurous variety, including some delicious gluten-free options.

Hopdoddy (Fort Worth): From what I hear, this newly opened burger joint has in-house-made gluten-free buns that will make your day. Can’t wait to find out for myself!

Terra Mediterranean (Fort Worth): The gluten-free menu here is pretty extensive, going beyond hummus and salads.

Max’s Wine Dive (Fort Worth): The gluten-free fried chicken here is a dream come true! Wine tasting, comfort food, clever t-shirts, and adult conversation — why yes, I will be back!

Globe Life Park (Arlington): You don’t have to feel left out of the typical stadium fare — family fun and gluten friendly munchies including, gluten-free hotdogs, beer, wraps, cookies, churros, and so much more can be found at Centerfield Market.

Sweet

Unrefined Bakery (Fort Worth): Gluten-free, vegan, Paleo, and Whole30 options (to name a few). Eat there or have them delivered to your door!

I Heart Muffins (Hurst): I’ve already checked this off my bucket list, but must include it because it is SO good. We tried cookies, muffins, and cupcakes (which was only a tiny sampling of their offerings). I said an audible, “Oh my goodness,” when I tasted my lemon cupcake. Most of their items are dairy free as well!

Stir Crazy Baked Goods (Fort Worth): Another Magnolia establishment, they offer a few GF treats as well as a breakfast item each day. If you plan ahead, you can order almost any of their regular menu items gluten-free with their 3-day order option.

Swiss Pastry Shop (Fort Worth): Reading about the Black Forest Macaroon Cake (aka the “Uncake”) will make you forget all your gluten woes.

Trulee (Colleyville): Not a restaurant, but this locally owned business makes the most wonderful gluten and dairy free treats. Find “Bliss Bites” at local grocery chains to keep on hand for a sweet post-bedtime snack (I hear they go great with wine and Netflix and highly recommend the peanut butter cup.)

Steel City Pops (multiple locations): This local chain has been popping up all over the metroplex and we personally love love love them. These gourmet popsicles will melt your gluten free heart all year round! I highly recommend the Buttermilk (for those who can enjoy dairy) and the Avocado dipped in dark chocolate. Be sure to sign up for the frequent buyer reward program—your new addiction will earn you free pops!

We would love to hear about your favorite local places! Share them in the comments, on our Insta, or Facebook feed.
