Don’t Grow Weary of Giving!

0

Giving has been the theme of September — and rightly so — as so much devastation has wrecked our state thanks to Harvey and our friends impacted by Irma. Yet, this North Texas Day of Giving, we do not need to grow weary in giving, but further challenge ourselves to be generous with our time, efforts, and money.

holding handsThis year, North Texas Giving Day falls on September 14. North Texas Giving Day (NTGD) takes place from 6:00 a.m. until 12:00 a.m., and anyone with access to a credit card and the Internet can make an online donation to one (or a few) of thousands of non-profits located in North Texas. Go to the NTGD website to find an organization that you feel you can put yourself behind and make a donation! Check out some of the organizations the FWMB has given its support to this year. Also, don’t forget to check out our lists from 2013, 2014, and 2015.

  1. Packs with Purpose. Packs With Purpose aims to give each child a backpack filled with necessities to both alleviate a foster parent’s mad dash to the closest 24-hour store when their new foster child shows up with nothing, but first and foremost to let each child know that someone, somewhere, cares about them and wants them to be well taken care of. Click here to donate.
  2. Junior League’s Kids in the Kitchen. This program put on by the Junior League teaches kids in second through fifth grade the importance of a healthy diet, getting outside and moving around, and just taking care of themselves in general. Kids in four FWISD schools learn about portion size, what foods to limit (sugary drinks, junk food, etc.), exercise, and more over the course of a week. Click here to donate.
  3. Harvey Relief. Many organizations rushed to help Harvey survivors after the hurricane. The FWMB put together a list of local organizations that need help and donations in order to help focus contributions where they are really needed. Check out our list, and click here to donate.
  4. CitySquare Transition Resource Action Center. This program aids young adults who have aged out of the state foster care system. It supplies youth, caregivers, and CPS with all sorts of information and activity to assist young adults as the they make the plunge into self-sufficiency. Click here to donate.
  5. Alliance for Children. Alliance for Children hires trained forensic interviewers to aid the investigative processes of the children’s cases. It has partners in law enforcement and child protective services who observe as the interviewer conducts a third party, unbiased interview of a child to uncover specific details about a child’s harmful circumstances. This way, the child only has to go through the interview process once. Click here to donate.
