Bloom 2017 Cook Children's

Bloom :: An Event for New & Expectant Moms is May 20, 2017 from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Cook Children’s Medical Center. This is an event for expectant moms and moms who are currently parenting children two years and under. (Foster and adoptive moms are welcome too!) The afternoon will focus on information, resources, products, and more that target the pregnancy and delivery stage of parenting through the first two years. This event, held in partnership with Cook Children’s, will provide a few hours of pampering, light snacks, educational resources, giveaways and swag, shopping, and connecting moms and families with relevant local resources for this season of life.

The purpose of this post is to provide in-depth info about the panelists, vendors, and workshop topics along with a sneak peek at giveaway and swag sponsors. Without further adieu . . . .

PANELISTS

All attendees will gather together to kick off and wrap up Bloom with the chance to learn from local experts. The first panel discussion, starting at 2:30 p.m. focuses on pregnancy and delivery topics. The panelists are:

Dr. Catherine Bevan :: Dr. Catherine Bevan, who regularly contributes to the Fort Worth Moms Blog, is a board certified obstetrician and gynecologist, who practices in Tarrant County, with offices in Fort Worth and Willow Park. She is a Fort Worth native and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Washington University in St. Louis where she graduated cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa. She then returned to Texas to complete her medical degree at UT Southwestern as well as her residency training at Parkland Memorial Hospital. Dr. Jamie Erwin :: Dr. Erwin is a board-certified OB/GYN who grew up in Fort Worth. She is a graduate of the University of Arkansas (where she was an All-American track athlete), UT Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, and University of Alabama Birmingham (where she completed her obstetrics and gynecology residency). Christy Martin :: Christy is a licensed midwife with more than 10 years of experience providing maternity care for low-risk women who desire to birth at home or a birth center. She loves helping families experience a meaningful and satisfying pregnancy and birth through safe and supportive midwifery care. Dr. Devona Martin :: Dr. Devona Martin joined the Willow Park practice in 2016 after working as a hospitalist at Cook Children’s Medical Center since 2012. She grew up in East Texas and attended Baylor University. There she was a University Scholar, spent a semester in The Netherlands studying the history of medicine, and graduated with honors. Her medical training was at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock where she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. Pediatric residency training was also completed at Texas Tech where she served as chief resident. Kristen SKristen Slaughter :: Kristen grew up all over the world as an Air Force brat, with amazing parents and eight siblings. She met husband Dave at college in Chicago, and, in addition to the Windy City, they lived in San Antonio and Northern Virginia before settling in Fort Worth in 2010. Along the way they managed to have six children: Molly (98), Warren (01), Henry (02), Carrie (04), Liam (06), and Donovan (11). Most of her time is spent homeschooling her brood, but Kristen is also a lover of Notre Dame and Seahawks football, IPAs, and winter. She believes in teasing her children mercilessly to keep them well-adjusted. Kristen is also a member of the Fort Worth Moms Blog contributing team.

Cate WCate Wiggins :: Cate Wiggins, First Spring Doula, has been supporting local women and their families since March 2016. Through each unique birth she attends, Cate continues to find inspiration in the strength and beauty of a woman in labor. To end Bloom, attendees will gather together once again to benefit from the second panel discussion at 4:30 p.m. This session is focused on parenting children ages 0-2. The panelists are:

Dr. Eriel Hayes ::  Dr. Eriel Hayes joined the Cook Children’s Forest Park practice in 2012. She grew up in Denton, TX and attended the University of North Texas for undergrad. She then attended medical school at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX and did her internship and residency in pediatrics at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX. Melanie Van Noy :: Melanie is a pediatric speech-language pathologist who works for Cook Children’s in its outpatient rehab center in Hurst. She sees patients primarily from birth to three who have feeding/swallowing difficulties and disorders. Melanie is passionate about helping families feed their children safely and efficiently, all while having a lot of fun!

 

Melissa O’Neill :: A mother of three, Melissa is a registered nurse who specialized in NICU for more than 12 years, and has now focused on infant care and sleep education for more than four years. A dedicated professional, she is a tremendous source of information for new parents and is passionate about sharing her knowledge about the best possible baby care. Melissa founded Newborn Nightingales in 2012 and is committed to helping parents establish a nurturing, caring, and calm environment. Hayley SpinksHayley Spinks :: Hayley has been a dietitian for 19 years. She has been at Cook Children’s for 10 years. The last eight years she has worked in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. She is currently working on her Master’s in Public Health from UNTHSC.

Shops and resources from all over Tarrant County will be in attendance in our vendor section. Sure, the Bloom attendance will be 100+, but that still gives ample space and time to really ask questions and get to know these locals whose life’s mission is to serve mamas in your season of life. For example, we are SUPER excited about the “Ask a Doc” station.
