best easter books

With Easter around the corner, you may be on the hunt for some new books to add to your child’s collection. I love giving my children two new books each Easter — one ahead of time to prepare for the season, and one to put in their basket on Easter Sunday. I’m always surprised at which books become their favorites! Some are silly, some are serious. Some have great illustrations, and others are terrible. Really, terrible. So I’m here to save you time and money, and offer up some of my family’s very favorite, mom and kid-approved Easter books.

Happy reading!

Best for Baby

  • Guess How Much I Love You  — This book should live in every baby’s nursery! It lulls your little one to sleep right along with Little Nutbrown Hare, reminding them of your big love (to the moon and back!). This one’s really perfect year round.

Best Lift the Flap

  • Where Is Baby’s Easter Egg — If you haven’t picked up one of these popular Karen Katz lift-the-flap books, then this is a must buy. Each colorful page includes an enticing flap for little ones to lift and explore, following all of baby’s things that lead to Easter day.

Best Grocery Store Buy

  • An Easter Prayer – This board book came into our life with the groceries, but its sweet rhymes and interesting basket shape have made it a popular book in our house each year to point us to the blessings of Spring.

Best Classic (with a Twist)

  • The Tale of Peter Rabbit (A Sound Story Book) — Bring back naughty Peter Rabbit in this adorable board book complete with musical sounds! If your little one likes to push the buttons as much as mine, this book will be a new favorite.

Best Classic (for Toddlers)

  • I Am a Bunny — Nicholas the bunny loves all the seasons, but his favorite one is spring. Timeless illustrations by Richard Scarry and the large board book size keep my two year old entertained for up to 10 minutes (win!).

Best Bunny Book Gift Set

  • Dance Bunny Dance — This adorable Jellycat book and bunny set are perfect for the tiny ballerina in your life. Mirrors, textured tutus, and silky ribbons meet your little one’s sensory needs and the darling bunny is one of the softest you’ve ever felt.

Best Berenstain Bears Book (for Bigger Kids)

  • Easter Story — The Berenstain Bears series has multiple Easter books, but I think this one is its best. Suited for the 4-8 crowd, this book explains the Easter story through the bears’ church theater performance and reminds us that Easter is about more than candy and eggs.

Best Silly Book

Best Religious Books

  • Tale of Three Trees — This stunning book tells the story of Jesus from the perspective of three trees with big dreams. It’s a moving read for children and parents of all ages (and my personal favorite!). Also comes in a board book for the little ones.
  • God Gave Us Easter — This gentle story explains God’s love for his children through the simple questions asked by Little Cub to his Papa while taking a walk.
  • The Donkey No One Could Ride — A lonely, weak donkey is chosen to carry Jesus into the crowds on Palm Sunday, reminding us all that Jesus routinely chooses the weakest among us to join in his work.
  • The Easter Story — This realistic book by Patricia A. Pingry tells about the life and death of Jesus, including Palm Sunday and the last supper. It shows Jesus’ death and resurrection without being scary, and is a great way to begin talking with your child about the true meaning of Easter.

Best Religious Book Activity Setresurrection eggs

  • Resurrection Eggs — These eggs take little ones through the Bible story in an engaging way. Each egg holds a small symbol to represent the life of Jesus. This will be our first year to introduce Resurrection Eggs! I hope it will become a new tradition.

Best Children’s Bibles

  • Jesus Storybook Bible — This is my family’s favorite book. It takes children through the entire Bible with illustrations to keep them engaged while repeatedly pointing back to Jesus at the end of each story. I highly recommend adding this bible to your library! Your children will use it for years to come.
  • Usborne Bible Stories with CD – Research continues to show the importance of audio books for our little ones. This Usborne Bible not only has gorgeous illustrations, but comes with its own CD to use during quiet time or in the car.

These are just a few of my family’s favorites. What Easter books do you love?
