Love My Local: Keller/Far North FW

0

Fort Worth is growing y’all, by leaps and bounds, and if you check out my area, you’ll see it in action. I live in the far north FW/Keller area, and I adore it. I know what you’re thinking . . . hello, suburbia. And on some level, you are right. There are quite a few new subdivisions, you can’t miss the Alliance Town Center (that has almost every store and chain restaurant known to Texas), and across Highway 35, there is a brand spanking, new shopping center, Presidio Junction, that is just as large as Alliance and covers all of the stores that its older sister forgot. All of that screams suburbia (while also giving us convenience, safety, new streets, and options by the way), but lucky for us, Keller is right next door, and despite its growing population, still offers all the quirky, comfortable locales that you would expect from a small town. We have the convenience of the suburbs, the community of a small town, and we’re only 15-20 minutes from downtown. I’ve found it to be the perfect combination.

My husband and I started our marriage in downtown Washington D.C. and never imagined we would be living in the suburbs, but I know it’s the perfect place to raise our family. Not to mention, since we are still in the city limits, I can technically claim I don’t live in the suburbs . . . take that 23-year-old self!

My Local Loves:

Keller Public Library

Story time takes place behind this magical wall.

I’ve been to quite a few libraries in my life. I’m a connoisseur of sorts (hey, I never claimed to be cool . . . ), and the Keller Public Library is one of my very favorites. The adult and children’s sections are extensive, it offers multiple story times per week (separated by age group), and the facility itself is beautiful. Even if you’re not a reader, the library is just the perfect place to go for moms. Your kids can pick out goodies to take home for free (books, movies, audio books, and magazines); it offers organized group activities; and it directly connects your family to your community. We love visiting the library in Keller every week.

FnG Eats

I’ve already highlighted FnG Eats in a previous post, but it’s too good to leave off the list. It is my family’s favorite restaurant in the area, and like the library, you can also find us here once a week. As a mom, the best thing about FnG is that it offers a modern, urban feel with a family-friendly twist. The food is exceptional (the ever-changing, creative menu is a foodie’s dream), and the drinks are handcrafted, but there are always other little ones sprinkled around. The kid’s menu is so good I would order off of it.

Woolley’s Frozen Custard

Woolley’s is a Fort Worth original, and recently opened a location just down the street from my house — a wonderful, but dangerous thing. It’s our local ice cream spot, and I promise it’s some of the best you’ve ever tasted.

Bear Creek Park

Parks are essential to mom-life, and Bear Creek does not disappoint. Picture rolling hills; a wide creek full of geese, turtles, and ducks; playgrounds; and enough shade trees to go around. There are also sand volleyball courts, running trails, adorable pavilions available for rent, picturesque views, and multiple free events, including Keller Summer Nights (free movies and concerts!).

Keller Moviehouse and Eatery

Dine-in movie theaters are not rare these days, but Keller Moviehouse and Eatery is in a class of its own. If you’ve visited a dine-in theater, you’ve probably experienced some of the downfalls (loud waiters taking orders in the middle of the movie; long, shared tables that make you feel like you’re sitting in a cafeteria, etc.), but the Moviehouse avoids all of that. The food is fantastic (I stop in to grab a bite even if I’m not going to a movie), your table is your own, and the wait staff is stealth. It’s the perfect place to bring your older kiddos for a special treat or to go on a date night.

Those are just a few of the reasons why I love far north Fort Worth/Keller. Also, if you live in the area or are just visiting, don’t miss Old Town Keller. This main street is bursting with locally owned boutiques and restaurants that I know you’ll love.

What are some of your favorite spots in far north FW/Keller?

Hayley
Hayley was born in Fort Worth and raised in the small, nearby town of Bridgeport. She married her husband, Derric, in 2009 and before settling back in Fort Worth, they made stops in Washington D.C., Dallas, and San Antonio. Isabelle Story arrived in 2014, and Hayley is lucky enough to spend her days at home with her precious girl . . . although they’re rarely actually at home as Isabelle likes to see and be seen. Apart from her family, books are Hayley’s passion. She is an avid reader and her lifelong dream is to write a novel. If she isn’t chasing Isabelle or stuck in a book, you can find her exploring this city she adores, trying new restaurants with Derric, doling out reading recommendations, running at a local park (in bad form), at Kyle Field watching her beloved Aggies, or making irresponsible decisions at a local Half Price Books.
