I love spring in Fort Worth for a few reasons. The weather is beautiful, our city hosts so many fun events, and everyone seems to really live it up and enjoy the moment because we all know Hades in the form of 110 degree temperatures is in our near future. “Isn’t it gorgeous out here, y’all?? Won’t last long!” Tell me you haven’t heard that a few dozen times.
In the spirit of living in the moment this spring, I have created a Spring Bucket List for you and yours. If you’re new to the area, or even a seasoned local, I recommend everything on this list. Enjoy spring in Fort Worth with your family this year . . . . You know what they say: it won’t last long!
Texas Tulips (Pick your own tulips & bulbs in Pilot Point): Late February – Mid April: I know it’s a little outside of town, but consider this fun day trip to Pilot Point to visit Texas’ first tulip field! Admission for children is free, and it’s only $2.50 for people over 16. There is a cost to pick tulips, but just like a pumpkin patch how often do you really visit these places to buy something? It’s all about the pictures, right?? Make the hour drive, explore the tulip field with your kids, and eat a hometown lunch at one of the cute little restaurants in Pilot Point — you won’t regret it!
Bluebonnet Pictures: Experts say the bluebonnets will bloom early April this year so don’t miss your chance for those family photos! It can be hard to find the right spot, but our FWMB Bluebonnet List will lead you exactly where you need to go. As a native Texan, I remind you to look before you sit (or set those babies down)! Our state may be settled, but our critters are still wild, and they love to hide in those bluebonnets.
Butterflies in the Garden (March 1-April 6): We are lucky to have such beautiful gardens at the Botanic Gardens, don’t forget about them! This event is particularly stunning. Parking is free, but there is a cost for tickets (purchased online). Please remember that strollers are not allowed in the butterflies exhibit. Even if you don’t make it to Butterflies in the Garden, I really encourage you to have a picnic with your family at the gardens this spring. It’s serene, gorgeous, and the perfect excuse to unplug with your kids. There is no admission cost to most of the gardens. There is a restaurant on-site if you don’t feel like packing a picnic.
Cowtown Goes Green (March 17th): Did you used to do it up big on St. Patrick’s Day before those babies came along? Well, consider this a one stop shop. Cowtown Goes Green is a family friendly event in our very own Stockyards. There are free activities for kids like armadillo races, face painting, and a petting zoo.
Mayfest (May 3 – 6): I saved the best for last! Oh, how I love Mayfest. It’s just so . . . Fort Worth! There is great food, live music, activities for the kids, shopping, a 10K, great views of our beautiful downtown and Trinity River, and it has the feel of a small town fair. There is admission cost for everyone over two years of age, but please note that they do offer free admission to active and retired military (and up to five family members). Don’t miss Mayfest – it’s the perfect tradition to start with your family!
What are your favorite spring activities in the area?
I’ve never heard of the Texas Tulips event. So going to this because I LOVE TULIPS!!!!! I also love the Main Street Arts Festival in Fort Worth (April 15-17).
