Love My Local: Mistletoe Heights

0

Love My LocalWe moved to Mistletoe Heights last spring and have since fallen in love with the area. The location — and neighbors — can’t be beat. Since moving in, we’ve found ourselves going to the same places over and over again; here are our favorite places to visit nearby:

Newby Park – When the weather is nice, we can be found at this park every day. There’s a great play structure, swings, and LOTS of green space to run and explore. (Kudos to Fort Worth Parks & Community Services for keeping our parks and playgrounds nice! Now if we could only get shade sails installed over all the playgrounds . . . but I digress.) Plus it’s half a block from our house. Win.

Esperanza’s – A sister restaurant to Fort Worth’s beloved Joe T. Garcia’s, Esperanza’s is a seemingly hidden gem. We’ve never had trouble finding a parking spot or had to wait for a table! On the menu, you’ll find Joe T’s favorites (including the potent margaritas), plus a TON more. They even serve breakfast every day. We like going on a weeknight to take advantage of happy hour (read: cheap margs and no cooking).

Kent & Co. – I’ll admit, I was skeptical of this place when it first opened. A wine bar owned and operated by the same people who run a car dealership? (Not hating on car dealers — my dad’s in the business.) I’ve since visited several times — once on date night, other times with friends — and have changed my tune completely. This place has a low-key atmosphere, a huge selection, and fantastic prices.

Torchy’s Tacos – This place has saved me on more than one occasion when we have nothing for dinner, and was our first meal after moving into our house. It’s walking distance for us, so my husband will either run over and pick it up or we will take a family walk to eat there. They also have a great patio; we’ve sat out there and let our little one run around on the grass between the restaurant and the hotel next door.

Melt Ice Creams – If you haven’t been to Melt, go now! Their ice cream is made in-house with local ingredients like chocolate from Dude, Sweet Chocolate and coffee from Avoca. It’s just down the road from us on Rosedale; you can’t miss the bright yellow building with black and white accents. There’s also a giant chalkboard outside that adults and kids alike can doodle on. Excellent ice cream + local business working with other local businesses + adorable location = awesome.

Fort Worth Zoo – It kind of feels like cheating to put the Fort Worth Zoo on my list . . . but now that we live three minutes from it, we go all the time! I always say that our zoo membership is the best money we’ve ever spent.

So there you have it! I’d love to hear your thoughts on the places I’ve listed or if you live in the area and think I’ve missed somewhere. We are always on the lookout for new places to visit.

We, at FWMB, love our local so much we created Neighbor Groups for every corner of Tarrant county — and in between. You’ll also find topical groups, like adoptive moms, single moms, food allergy moms, etc. Join a Neighbor Group (or two) today and get connected with other moms in your area.
