Girlfriends Floral Design Party

0

I feel like sometimes we get caught in the trap of having to have a “girl’s night” complete with lots of calories, gabbing and high heels. While that is all well and good, and let’s face it sometimes absolutely needed, girl’s night doesn’t always have to consist of going out. Stay with me now momma . . . what if we stayed in and did something out of the box and fun with our best girlfriends? That is exactly what some of my dearest friends and I did. Here are all of the sweet smelling details. . . .

Girlfriends Floral Design Party

First, I set the scene . . .

On my back porch I set the table with butcher paper, adorable spindle candle holders (thank you Canton) and at each setting there were all the tools each gal would need to make a beautiful floral creation:

  • Medium/large mason jar
  • Scissors
  • Raffia
  • Floral design tape
  • Cute pitcher with water

*side note* before hand I asked everyone to bring $20 for this special event. That covered the flowers and supplies for each girl. You can easily scale it up or down for your party 🙂

1 Across from the table was a spread of flowers with a common theme. Since this was a spring get together I chose yellow and white blooms to play with. I picked up the flowers the night before from the best place in town for lovely  petals . . . Central Market in Southlake.  Sometimes I pop into Central Market to just check out what flowers they have :). The Floral Department was so sweet and helpful when I stopped by. A couple of the designers helped me pick the perfect blend of flowers for my party.

I had planned to have a floral designer join us to demonstrate how to put together the perfect bouquet, but they had to cancel at the last minute so I got to be the one to share the how to’s. It was SO FUN! I have always loved designing arrangements, so it was a treat to step in and talk about what it takes to make the perfect bouquet.

Now that the scene is set . . . it’s time to wait for your guests to arrive. My guests were seven of my sweet girlfriends and as each of them arrived we enjoyed some simple snacks and iced tea (we’re in Texas for goodness sake) as we waited for everyone to make it. Once everyone was in place, it was time to start . . .

305726_932441099111_1696679843_nAll were eager to sit down and begin, and some had never done anything like this before, which made it all the more fun. I walked everyone through the different bloom choices and how to just jump in and play. Flowers are resilient and not quite as delicate as some thought. Floral arranging is all about being laid back and trying a little of this and a little of that, and then all of the sudden you have the perfect bouquet. The laughter and shock at the arrangements were priceless . . . lots of “I made this?” and “I would never have thought this was so easy!” Flower arranging is all about the mood you’re in.  My best arrangements come when I am not too concerned with how it will turn out and am just happy to be playing with flowers . . . I could do it all day, everyday.

We spent the whole morning just playing with flowers, drinking tea and chatting about life. It was good, it was simple, and none of us had high heels on.

I am dying to bring back some of the traditions that our generation seems to have gotten away from with our hurried lives . . . so why not make those a fun girl’s night in!

Whether it is planning a fun party or just having some of your momma friends over for coffee, just do it! It doesn’t just take a village to raise a child, but it takes all of the women of the village to keep each other sane. Life gets Cah-Razy so lean on those friends God has put in your life. They were put there for a reason my friend.

What are some of your favorite girls’ nights? I’m dying to know and I may steal some of your ideas!

Joanna loves doing life in Fort Worth! She has two cutie pie kiddos, Rhett, 5 and Layla, 4. She works full time in marketing and loves to run. Let’s be real . . . she likes to run because she loves donuts! She and her family are in a fight to find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis because Layla has the disease. They could not be more in love with their team of doctors, nurses, and dietitians at Cook Childrens. Joanna says she tries to find joy in each day even though life gets absolutely crazy at times with a full-time job, two super fun and active kids, and doing treatments with Layla daily. She can many times be found in her kitchen trying out a new recipe from Cooking Light Magazine or Pioneer Woman. (Photo courtesy of: Beyond the Blue Studios).
