New Date Night Dining Around the Fort

1

I feel like everywhere I look these days, someone is either posting on social media or talking about some new “it” restaurant in town for fast casual dining.  If you’re looking for a good date night, here are some ideas!

Cane Rosso – This restaurant is an import from Dallas and is located in the old Ryan’s Fine Grocer space on Magnolia. They pride themselves on official Neapolitan pizza style and have an oven that was built in Italy. I followed them on Facebook while they were building out their space, and they gave a play-by-play on the building and shipping process of their oven. I feel like I have a vested interest now in going and seeing how well it bakes.

Velvet Taco – We tried this one out on our last date night (which ended at Target, because for some reason, all of our date nights post-children end at Target). The food was great, but neither of us felt like this was a restaurant we would bring our kids to until they were quite a bit older. The tables are bar top height, which doesn’t exactly lend itself to a high chair. We would go back! Also an import from Dallas, you can tell from the vibe. Conveniently for us, it’s located right next to Montgomery Plaza, where Target beckons.

Pizza Snob – This one is located on University, right next to the McAllister’s across from TCU. It’s a build your own pizza concept, where you walk down the line adding this ingredient or that. They have a special of the day, usually with a sample to try at the beginning of the line. This falls squarely in the category of fast casual. The evening we were there, some patrons had walked across from the TCU basketball game. We were one of the few families in there, but my children didn’t seem out of place. Since I usually order and share a plain cheese pizza, I’d like to go back for date night and specialize my own pie on this one! And if you judge a pizza by its crust, I’d say this one ranks at the top!

Taco Diner in Sundance Square –  We usually save Sundance Square for date nights.  f you haven’t had a chance to check out the new Sundance Square Plaza, swing through there on your way to eat at Taco Diner right next door. Taco Diner is owned by the same group that brings us delicious Mi Cocina. It’s food has a bit more of a Mexico City flair versus Mi Co’s traditional Tex-Mex that I love so much.

What other date night restaurants are on the Cowtown “must” list?
