Organizing Memories with Project Life

2

We, moms, work hard to create memories for our families – sometimes we break our backs in order to do so and we darn sure want proof of our efforts!  I love taking pictures and documenting our lives – 20 years from now I want to have something to look back on all the things we are doing now and take a trip down memory lane.

I always have a camera with me, whether it be my iPhone, my point-and-shoot, or my big girl camera, though that wasn’t always the case. My own family didn’t take a lot of pictures when I was growing up, so I really wasn’t used to having a camera in my face all the time. I was the girl who would always turn my head or cover my face when a camera came out. Unfortunately, most of my family is still that way, so I have to fight to get them in a photo. Thankfully, my days of hiding from the camera came to an end when I met my now husband. From the moment I met him in college, I remember he always had a camera around (something instilled in him by his own family) — I am so grateful for the pictures he has from those years.

After my son was born in 2008, I started making photos books for every year. You may recall Tara’s post about  on her own books she creates online from the posts she writes on her blog. I am not an avid blogger, so instead I used the pictures I’ve taken throughout the year and made a photo book online. I really liked having books that documented our entire year, but hated waiting until the end of the year to compile everything.  It was so difficult to remember all the little details of what happened or what we did or said in those moments. The pictures were still wonderful, but the details gone.

That all changed this year when I found Project Life. As their website boasts – “It requires no glue, no scissors, no tools, and no skills of any kind. The design of the products takes the guess-work out of layout design so that you can focus on recording your everyday moments through your photos and journaling. The simple design is stylish and makes it possible for you to complete more pages in less time.”

All you need is an album/binder, a core kit (includes a bunch of cute notecards), photo pocket pages, your photos and a pen. That’s it! Then you can get busy keeping track of your memories. I have loved creating my Project Life album for 2013 throughout the year. Since this is my first album, I have kept it pretty simple. The options are endless with these albums — you can keep it basic or add all sorts of details and embellishments. That’s the great thing about it… you can make it whatever you want!

  1. So with a closet full of half done scrapbooks (seriously have one that has things from my wedding – almost 10 years ago) and boxes of pictures (at least I printed them out, right?), I am almost sure I could actualy do this and keep up with it. Thanks Meredith! Excited to try this for 2014!

  2. If anyone has questions, let me know. This can be quite the undertaking if you are just starting out. I would love to help in any way I can!
