The building alone is worth checking out!

I’m not good at this stay at home mom thing. What I mean is, I’m not good at the stay at home part. Even on days we have no plans, I find myself going a bit stir-crazy if I don’t get out of the house. I also find my mind wanders off and I start thinking maybe the world has spun off its axis and I’d never know since I haven’t left this house all day. It’s a problem. I’m working on it.

On the other hand, some days I don’t want to tackle some huge outing that requires copious amounts of diaper bag packing, sippy cup filling and snack cup arranging. I love simple, quick outings that get us out of the house but don’t require much planning. Sometimes I don’t even take an extra diaper! I like to live dangerously.

As the temperatures rise here in Cowtown, anything inside gets bumped to the top of my list. Bluebonnet Bakery is the perfect spot to get you and the kids out of the house, grab a quick snack and you can accomplish it all in the air conditioning!

I rediscovered Bluebonnet Bakery shortly after they moved to their new AWESOME location. They renovated and moved into an old church on Camp Bowie. Aside from the yummy treats awaiting inside, the fact they gave life to this old building is reason enough to visit. The bakery is a fabulous combination of old and new. I just love the original church doors and stained glass windows. And my girls think it is just the coolest thing to sit at the tables up on the original altar and eat their treat. Also, while I haven’t tried it yet, my husband swears their cinnamon coffee is just about the best coffee anywhere.

We’ll pop into Bluebonnet Bakery for a quick treat on any given afternoon. The girls love to peruse the cases filled with colorful cupcakes and cookies and each of them is delighted to pick out their very own treat. You can easily get out for under $5. Even less if you behave yourself and only feed the sugar to your kids. I love watching my girls wander along the cases, their eyes huge as saucers and the innocent wonder that overtakes their faces. As adults, we just can’t appreciate the cases in a bakery like a child can. It’s awesome to watch.

As a mom, there are 2 things I hate. No parking and crummy bathrooms. Another win for Bluebonnet Bakery is ample parking in the lot behind their building and large, clean bathrooms complete with changing tables! Their hours allow for a pop-in just about any time of day. For specific hours and directions check out their website here.

So if you’re in need of a quick outing, head on over to Bluebonnet Bakery. We might just see you there!
