Happy Anniversary, Neighbor Groups!

0

In 2015, we heard your cries for ideas on how to connect with your community, on how to connect with other moms, and ways to meet people to build friendships for both you and your kiddos, because let’s face it . . . motherhood can be isolating and lonely at times.

In January 2016, we took action and launched our Neighbor Groups.

That was a year ago . . . an ENTIRE YEAR ago! Can you believe it?! We certainly can’t.

2016 was a BIG year for us here at the Fort Worth Moms Blog. Our Neighbor Groups took off faster than we anticipated, and seeing all of you who have joined our Neighbor Groups connect with other mama’s has brought so much joy to our hearts. It has definitely been a humbling experience for us.

Throughout the year, we have also gained an amazing team of Mom-bassadors. We could never thank these ladies enough for all the time they dedicate to facilitating our online Facebook groups, for representing your neighborhood/interest group, for creating and updating play date events, and introducing you, dear reader, to your new gal pals.

To celebrate Neighbor Group’s one-year anniversary, we are hosting a giveaway extravaganza, Sunday, January 29 through Tuesday, January 31. You’ll see giveaways on the Fort Worth Moms Blog main Facebook and Instagram accounts; however, the bulk of the giveaways will happen within the Neighbor Groups themselves. All Neighbor Group members have the opportunity to enter to win one of five prizes. So, if you’re thinking about joining a Neighbor Group or two, this weekend is the time do it!

So, what exactly is this Neighbor Group thing? Neighbor Groups are Facebook groups managed by FWMB for moms throughout Tarrant County, from Keller to Cleburne, Aledo to Arlington, and everywhere in between. Each group has an assigned FWMB Mom-bassador who will decide, in conjunction with her group, a standing meet-up time and place for regular get togethers among group members. This could be play dates at a nearby park every first Friday of the month or lunch at a local restaurant every other Wednesday. You can attend every meet up, or as your schedule allows. This is our solution for taking our big city and making it feel small; our way of taking the online FWMB community and fostering real-life, face-to-face friendships and support systems for moms in our area. Our hope is to create a safe place for moms from all walks of life to share stories and receive encouragement.

How can I join? It is simple to join! There are no fees, no memberships, and no minimum attendance or participation requirements. When you visit the Neighbor Group Facebook page you wish to join, you simply click the “Join” tab or input your name into the “Add Members” field. Easy peasy.

What areas have Neighbor Groups? Below is a list of our current groups. These boundaries are general so feel free to join as many groups as you like. Click the name to be directed to that group’s Facebook page.

What if I’m looking for moms to connect with who are walking a special road like me? Sometimes life gets complicated. Sometimes life doesn’t go as planned. Sometimes life goes against the grain and you find yourself in a situation with which your friends cannot fully understand. We get it. That’s why in addition to our area groups, we will also have topical groups where moms can find support from other moms walking that special road. These groups are not bound by area.

What if I have an idea for a new topical group? As time goes on, we want to add more groups to our family. If you are interested in becoming a topical group mom-bassador for the Fort Worth Moms Blog, send us an email ([email protected]) and we will see how we can get you involved. Big things are happening in Tarrant County! We can hardly contain ourselves!

How can I get more information about possibly being a Mom-bassador for my area or topical group? Some of our Neighbor Groups have Mom-bassadors already; however, we’d love to hear from you still! Sometimes life happens and seasons change and a Mom-bassador position will become available, so it never hurts to introduce yourself and express interest.

Currently, we need Mom-bassadors for:

  • Aledo West
  • Arlington Area
  • Southeast Fort Worth
  • Southwest Fort Worth
  • Northwest Fort Worth
  • Northeast Fort Worth
  • Tarrant County North

If you are interested in becoming a Mom-bassador for one of these areas, would like to express interest in becoming a Mom-bassador for one of our Neighbor Groups, and/or have any questions regarding our Neighbor Groups, please email us at [email protected].
