Love My Local: East Fort Worth and Surrounding Area

1

If you look at a boundary map of Fort Worth, you will notice a long eastern arm extending nearly to Irving. This area, with its striking resemblance to a Mid-Cities handshake, is where I call home.

Our little neighborhood is located where I-30 and 820 intersect. Just a few miles from two major highways and the TRE commuter station, makes this location a gateway to all of DFW. On weekends, we head north to Church at the Cross in Grapevine, east into Dallas for Chinese dim sum, south into Arlington for some craft beer at Division Brewing, or west into Fort Worth for some food truck cuisine. Any direction we choose, we win!

The ease of travel makes our little piece of Fort Worth feel endless, and yet, we often refer to it as our “bubble.” Our neighborhood is tucked away in a perfect mix of country and city, allowing for quiet neighborhood walks to compliment our urban adventures. Although we frequent all areas of DFW, we have several, local favorites within a 10-15 mile radius.

Grain and Dairy (Hurst): Appropriately named for people like us who love both, this newly-opened, gourmet grilled cheese joint (yes, you read that right) is modern, fun, and delicious! My kids love it, and I love that you get a cup of yummy soup for dipping!

Honey love Cakery (Hurst): When we finish stuffing ourselves with delicious cheesy creations, we pop next door for a fancy cupcake. Both places are new to our area and create a little oasis for our foodie hearts.

Green’s Texas BBQ (Food Truck): If it’s Saturday, we will venture a little further down the Fort Worth arm to grab some brisket biscuits from Green’s. Usually parked outside of Republic Tire on Highway 10, it’s close enough for us to be regulars. It’s so uniquely fantastic that our out-of-town family craves it.

Roots Coffee (North Richland Hills): I can’t possibly make a list of things to love without coffee! Roots not only has great coffee and pastries, but is also a great third-place to meet with my Bible study girls or to have a quiet moment alone.

Goodwill (Hurst) and Thrift Town (North Richland Hills): I am a thrifting junkie, so having these two excellent stores within minutes of my home is a dream. Thrift Town even offers coupons and reward points along with weekly sales! This specific location also has the best selection of shoes around!

Artisan Theater (Hurst): Just a quick drive from our house, this local theater is one of our favorite family activities. The Children’s Theater productions keep all of us laughing and entertained, even my toddler enjoys them!

Fort Worth Zoo (Fort Worth): img_3404Living off of I-30 makes a trip to the zoo an easy, impromptu day of fun for us. We have been zoo members for many years and plan to continue for several more. Even on the busiest days, the Fort Worth Zoo never feels overcrowded. If you haven’t tried the Texas Nature Traders learning center out, it is a must. My five-year-old scours the outdoors for treasures to study, research, and trade. The workers then quiz her and teach her about her finds. Anything that promotes learning and fun is a win in our books!

Trinity Trails (Fort Worth): An avid cyclist, my husband has found the Trinity Trails to be one of Fort Worth’s most enticing amenities. From our house, he can ride or drive a short way to Gateway Park in Fort Worth and ride paved trails all the way around Fort Worth and down to Lake Benbrook.

We absolutely love living in our little bubble of East Fort Worth and exploring all that DFW has to offer. What are some of your favorite things to do in and around Fort Worth?
