Fabulous Local Gifts for Local Teachers

0

Your kids are getting restless, anxiously awaiting Christmas break. But first, Christmas parties and teacher gifts. As a teacher myself, I will tell you that some of the sweetest things I have ever received were simple notes and cards communicating appreciation. I love my students, and it’s nice when I find that I am loved back. That is enough. But in case you do want to give a gift and don’t want to be that mom that is making a mad rush to the local drugstore at 10:00 p.m. to grab a Christmas gift for your child’s teacher, here are a few local places that offer sweet gifts that are sure to brighten up a teacher’s holiday!

Buttermilk Pie Sky Shop I have to confess something. I am including this because it’s one of the best teacher gifts I have ever received. A sweet parent showed up to my classroom door with a box of mini pies. Four adorable, individual-sized, delicious pies. Pie might be my love language. So, it is with great confidence that I recommend this box of four mini pies ($18) to you all. And, take it from me, even though variety is supposed to be the spice of life, there is no shame in selecting several of the I-40 pies (pecans, chocolate chips, and coconut!) for the box, rather than choosing four separate flavors. They are that good. Online ordering is available.

Miller’s Gifts & Boutique (Fort Worth). A self-proclaimed Alabama girl, owner Amanda Miller Mastin is having no trouble fitting in here in Fort Worth. She has expanded a family business of beautiful monogrammed gifts to serve our city. She offers gorgeous custom tote bags, clothing, and tons of other personalized gifts. Miller’s is online-only at the moment, but it does offer delivery. If you want to skip shipping, you can pick up directly from the owner! I recommend the Eden wristlet ($28), or, if you’d really like to splurge on your child’s teacher, the Herringbone shoulder bag ($48). Bonus: Watch Miller’s Gifts & Boutique’s Facebook page each for daily deals.

Prim & Proper Gifts (Fort Worth). Owner Melanie Jones has a lovely little shop here, filled with things a teacher would love — candles, cards, and so many papery things. I am a fan of the Minimergency Kit for Teachers ($18) and the Personalized Single Thickness Small Notepad ($11). They have a small but solid section of gifts for him, if your child’s teacher happens to be a mister rather than a missus. Bonus: Prim & Proper Gifts also specializes in gift wrapping, so feel free to have them do your special holiday wrapping for you!

W Durable Goods (Fort Worth). So, if your child’s teacher is indeed a mister, you must shop here. First of all, Daniel Wright’s store smells super manly, like leather and shaving cream and maybe sawdust. The canvas and leather work is done on-site by a team of three, and the quality is fantastic. Maybe your teacher needs a business card case ($22) or the Zipper Bag ($26). They also have a large assortment of personal care items for men. If you plan a group gift with other class parents, they have an entire section of Vintage Repurposed that are a little on the pricey side. Think bags made out of tents and military issue fire entry suits. A history teacher’s dream.

GiftsFeastivities (Fort Worth). Because teachers need a break from school AND from cooking. Feastivities specializes in quality, gourmet food to-go. With a huge variety of meals available nightly, including a Blue Zone option, your child’s teacher can have a delicious gourmet dinner at home with no work involved and will have you to thank for it. Feastivities has a large selection of desserts. They also have many choices of delicious dishes. And, don’t worry. Gift certificates are available, leaving the teacher to make the hard choices. But, I can’t mention Feastivities without mentioning . . . .

Monkey & Dog Books (Fort Worth). Walk inside Feastivities and look to the left, and you’ll find Monkey & Dog Books, a completely separate business but equally lovable option for teachers. Because more than we love not cooking, we love books. It is a job requirement, I think. Teachers read books and collect books and teach with books. We like books. So there are so many things to love here. They offer a lovely selection of books for infants all the way to middle schoolers. Bonus: For the elementary teacher, they sell the most adorable little Folkmanis finger puppets. I might have had to buy one for my son before I left.

Hurley House (Fort Worth). I have heard so much about Hurley House over the last few months, but I have not had a chance to stop in until recently. First of all, it smells divine, the scent of baked goods lingering in the air. Second, the decor is so sweet and inviting. You’ll just want to hang out a while. It has so many delicious bakery gift options at every price point. From a Rice Krispie gift bag ($3.50) to a full blown, make-your-own gift basket or bakery box full of goodies, Hurley House can accommodate your teacher-gift-buying budget. Bonus: Hurley House makes its own marshmallows. When was the last time you had a homemade marshmallow?

The Woodhouse Day Spa (Fort Worth). Nothing makes a teacher’s heart sing like the words day spa. Give your teacher the gift of relaxation. The Woodhouse Day Spa currently carries unique gifts, including Mustard Seed Jewelry (prices vary) and Lavender Scented Neck Wraps ($40). Pedicures and manicures start at $65. For a class gift, spa day packages are available. Bonus: You can purchase a gift certificate directly from its website, and these things are cute!

What are your go-to teacher gifts? And do you prefer to give an individual gift or go in together with other classroom parents?
