An Incredible Vieux

Once every three months, your favorite Fort Worth Moms Blog contributors get together for a first-rate time of food, fun, and a few minutes of “getting down to business.” In July, we had the pleasure of meeting up at The Painted Vieux. Boy, were we inspired.

The Eats

cakeRight off the bat, we found ourselves munching on a scrumptious meal prepared by Pollo Tropical, our food sponsor, a franchise with a variety of delicious and healthy options, who recently celebrated the opening of its new store on Bryant Irvin Road. Pollo Tropical offers dine-in and drive-thru options, and is a great catering provider as we found out. You can bet that was a happy surprise for our busy mamas! We put together our own TropiChops, bowls comprised of any combination of chicken, beef, rice, lettuce, beans, and dressings. Yum!

One of our contributors, Laura, baked a mouth-watering cake that was flawlessly decorated to resemble our very own FWMB masthead. This double-layer dessert was frosted in purple, green, pink, and blue designs with our logo front and center. And did someone say chocolate and vanilla?! Every moist slice consisted of both flavors. Scandalous!

The Deets

During our evening out, we discussed business items for the upcoming quarter and celebrated victoriesf from quarter two. Hip, hip, hooray, the Fort Worth Moms Blog had a record number of page views during April 1 – June 30. The top post for the quarter was “The Days Are Long {On Dealing with My Daughter’s Death from Hyperthermia}” followed by “Supporting a Friend Through Infertility.” Both of these are hard topics, but we are so thankful to be a safe place where moms can share and discuss the challenging parts of life. In other news, more than 2,000 moms have joined our Neighbor Groups, which are free, online communities of moms that also hosts meet up and play date opportunities.

In the second quarter, FWMB featured the series Birth Stories, the Indoor Fun in Tarrant County guide, and our monthly round-up of things to do in the DFW area — just to name a few.

Along with getting to write soulfully about the joys and struggles and motherhood, there are many perks that come with being a Fort Worth Moms Blog contributor. Every mama walked away with some swag, and seven lucky women won goodie bags filled with all sorts of prizes, one of which was a chalk paint sample of from our wonderful hostesses. With our stomachs content and our brains ready to tackle a DIY project, the women who run The Painted Vieux came forth for a chalk paint demonstration.

The Treats

As we watched, the staff at The Painted Vieux turned an ordinary piece of wood into a light blue and shimmering gold masterpiece. They introduced us to the art of crackling the surface of an object to give it a more rustic look, and the showed us how to add foil to paint jobs for a shiny touch. They gave us step-by-step chalk paintinstruction of what goes on in one of their painting classes. You can take anything from an Intro to Chalk Paint class to a more advanced class, such as one involving transferring printed images to painted surfaces.

In addition to our brief tutorial, we got the chance to wander around the beautifully arranged and aesthetically pleasing shop. There were all types of items for home decor, from sturdy side tables to enchanting bookends. You can find every paint color you can possibly imagine and the Artisan Enhancements products that help create environmentally safe paint treatments and all sorts of flare and personality. The Painted Vieux also sells books by the acclaimed painter Annie Sloan, whose chalk paint product is used in the store.

Leaving with hearts full of giggles and good times, the FWMB contributors were ready to return to this local treasure for another experience. Whether you’re looking for your next home project or some more accents for the living room, this business has something right up your alley. Even some of the less crafty in our group left the demo feeling as though we could take on a chalk paint challenge, and visions of refurbished dressers and unique wall hangings were swimming across our mind’s eye.
