Father’s Day the Sprouts Way {Sponsored}

Disclaimer: Sprouts sponsored this post and provided FWMB contributor Julie the sheer delight of choosing just the right items for her main man this Father’s Day. You better bet the opinions and selections are 100 percent straight from Julie’s brain to blog.

SproutsNovelty Ties. Kiss the Chef grilling aprons. Desktop gadgets. A Potty Putter. (This is a real thing, you know.) World’s Greatest Dad t-shirts. Father’s Day gifts can be a little . . . um, cheesy. Forgettable, even.

I am the queen of practicality, so I was determined to get my husband something he would use this Father’s Day. I headed to my local Sprouts store, and decided to create a Father’s Day basket. I was 100 percent certain that I was only buying things my husband would not only use (read: eat), but actually enjoy.

I considered a basket of grilling items. After all, it is summer, and summer is grilling season. Sprouts has a huge selection of fresh produce, meats, spices for DIY dry rubs, and craft beers, microbrews, etc. But goodness, y’all. I am weeks away from delivering our second baby. Everyone here needs to stay ready-to-jump-behind-the-wheel-at-any-moment sober (so no alcohol), and I refuse to step outside into the heat for any reason (so no outside cooking for us). So I had to rethink my plan. Because a trip to Labor & Delivery is in our near future, I decided he needed a “We’re Having a Baby, Baby” basket.

I filled it with everything a father needs during those long hours of labor. Sprouts has a huge assortment of healthy snacks to keep a dad going through the strain of being a wife-supporting rock star. Plus, he’ll need something to sustain him through those first nights of interrupted sleep on an uncomfortable hospital couch-turned-bed. I stocked up on beef jerky, fruit and veggie snacks, a dark chocolate bar, Epic bars, Larabars, kettle cooked potato chips, granola, Sprouts freshly roasted bulk coffee, almond butter and Sprouts’ own bear cookies for dipping, flavored sparkling waters, and Sprouts Kombucha (he loves these). I even took a little detour past the bulk bins, one of my favorite parts of the store, to stock up on chocolate covered espresso beans (antioxidants AND energy in one snack!) and walnuts to create a little trail mix for the basket. Can you call it trail mix with only two ingredients? I’m going to say that, because I am at the end of pregnancy, it totally counts.

My husband and I are kind of opposites when it comes to shopping. He wants the best of everything; he likes handmade, organic, locally-sourced, all natural. I want to the best price possible — budget-friendly, bargain, I-just-scored-an-awesome-deal. And we are able to come together at Sprouts. We get the best of both worlds. I manage to make our grocery budget stretch because of its great prices. I am never disappointed in the quality of their produce, both regular and organic. And Wednesdays, y’all. Wednesdays are the day to shop Sprouts, thanks to the fact that every Wednesday, their sale ads overlap. So I get TWO weeks worth of sale prices in one visit. My bargain-loving heart can hardly take the excitement. We don’t ever leave without stopping at the bulk bins and stocking up on chocolate-covered everything. It’s our reward for surviving another week of grocery shopping.

So here it is, my Father’s Day basket. Throw in a toddler-made card, and I’m calling it a win. What kind of food basket could you pull off for your father or husband? What’s he into? Is he a Crossfit enthusiast? Sprouts has a huge selection of Paleo-friendly foods and snacks, including sugar-free bacon. And really, who doesn’t love bacon? Does he love specialty beer and international wines? Sprouts has an impressive assortment of affordable alcohol.

So c’mon. Join me. Forget the tie this year. Just say no to aprons. Skip the Potty Putter. Head to your local Sprouts. The fathers in your life will thank you.
