Stork stories

mom, twins, poolFirst-time mom-to-be Gabrielle Stevenson knew she wanted to be healthy and fit as she prepared for the arrival of her twin boys in the fall of 2015. When she received information about a Prenatal Water Aerobics class in her Oh Baby! weekly parenting email provided through Texas Health, the timing couldn’t have been more perfect. The class is one of several offered to expecting and current moms by Oh Baby! Fitness through a relationship with Texas Health Resources as part of the health system’s parenting education initiative.

Gabrielle was quick to sign up and start attending the water aerobics class at the Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas. The fun and challenging aqua workout is taught by an instructor who is specially certified in prenatal and postnatal fitness. For Gabrielle, resistance from the water served to help tone her body — and more.

“The pool was the place to be as I began to expand; I felt weightless in the water,” Gabrielle said. But it was more than just about getting in the water and taking off the weight. It was about forming friendships and supportive connections. Liza (ter Kuile) was an amazing instructor who made sure to connect participants to each other and to hospital resources as needed.”

Mom, Twins, SwimmingGabrielle has not only formed lasting friendships with some of the other moms she met in her class, but together they’ve also created a special Facebook page for support and information sharing. She also realized a tremendous health benefit from the workouts that became apparent on the day of her delivery.

“I remember my anesthesiologist saying to me, ‘Wow, you’re in really great shape.’ Before my pregnancy, I weighed 173 pounds. The day of my C-section, I weighed 196 pounds. Post-delivery, I was 146 pounds, and now I’m down to 140.”

Gabrielle added that she remains conscious of what she eats and she continues to make fitness a part of her lifestyle. It’s a commitment she makes not only for herself, but also for her two precious sons.
