Stork stories

The birth of your baby is one of the most special and emotional moments you will ever experience! Hiring a birth photographer will ensure that every moment with your new baby is captured forever. Here are a few things your birth photographers want you to know:

mom, dad, and babyWe are experienced at birth. We know birth is unexpected, and we expect that. It doesn’t matter to us what kind of birth you have or what happens during your birth because we know how to handle any situation with sensitivity and professionalism. What that means is that you (or your birth team) don’t have to worry about how we’ll react to any circumstance. It also means that we are able to anticipate moments before they happen because we’re experienced with the process and emotions that often accompany birth. We’re able to catch that first kiss between husband and wife as a new mom and dad because we know how to anticipate it.

We know what to photograph.
While this may seem obvious, what this means is that we know how to photograph any situation creatively and with taste. Not all moms want doctor’s perspective images, and that is okay. In fact, most moms prefer a more creative approach to the actual birth. Our goal is to capture images in a way that you can share (if you want) with your family and friends. We’re there to document your day and the emotions that unfold. We know how to document your day while being a fly on the wall. We don’t pose people, we just know where to be and when to be there.

We help moms get experiences and memories they may not have had otherwise. We get a lot of moms who say, “Well, I have to have a C-section, and I’m not sure I want to remember THAT.” But, that is far from the truth. Having someone who is experienced in circumstances such as C-sections helps you remember moments you didn’t even know were happening. It’s very healing for moms to get to feel like they are givMom and baby in bathen a piece of their birth, from their images, that they felt were missing. This allows them to see dad’s face light up when he got to touch his baby for the first time. They get to see their baby take their first breath. They get to remember what it was like and the joy they felt when their baby was handed to them for the first time because that is sometimes hard to remember when things are moving quickly. During labor, moms don’t get to see when their loved ones are watching carefully over them. They often see images from their birth and say, “I remember someone rubbing my back, and it felt SO GOOD, but I didn’t know who was doing it!” They get to SEE their significant other loving on them.

Dad holding newbornDads are important, too. Their experience matters, and having a birth photographer helps free him to be in the moment and not experience the birth of his child through a camera lens. We’ve had dads send us messages after they see the slideshow/video and tell us they never realized how much it would mean to them to actually BE IN the pictures. Their first moments looking into their son or daughter’s eyes. That’s a moment you never want to forget!

Above all, we want you to know that your birth story is beautiful and worth capturing! As birth photographers, we consider it an honor to be invited into such an intimate setting, and love being able to share these sweet, priceless memories with your family!
