Five Beauty Updates for Spring

0

I love to give my makeup bag a little spring cleaning this time of year. Out with the old and in with the new, of course. I take a close look at what I’ve bought and don’t use (into the trash with you, old waterproof mascara I used once last summer!) and what I’ve bought and loved. I like to treat myself to a new spring color that’s “on trend” to go with the activewear I am usually sporting. (Fancy Nancy would say, “Activewear is a fancy way of saying yoga pants and tennis shoes.”)

Five Updates for spring beauty

Let’s dive into some beauty items I’m excited about for spring!

Up Your Anti-Aging Game
Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Serum ($20)
I’m getting to be “of a certain age,” and as such I’ve been on the hunt for anti-aging products. I found this little miracle tube at my local drugstore. Applying this daily underneath my moisturizer, I’ve noticed that my makeup goes on more smoothly, and within about a week, I felt like some of my fine lines were a teensy less noticeable. This is a great intro to anti-aging products, if you’re starting to think along those “lines.”

Use a Great Highlighter
Save: Physicians Formula Strips in Vegas Strip (<$10)
Splurge: Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick in Beige (around $50)
Maybe you’ve seen bloggers loving on the Bobbi Brown shimmer brick, but you’re not loving the price tag. It’s a little steep. Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Custom Bronzer is a great dupe for less than $12! The Vegas Strip palette is similar to Bobbi’s Beige. These are great for swirling together to highlight the cheek bones, or use them separately as eyeshadow.

A Fresh Neutral Lipstick
Save: NYX Butter lipstick in Pops ($7)
Splurge: MAC Cosmo ($17)
If you’re buying lipstick for spring, all I can see are nudes, pinks, and pinky-purple hues. Especially pink lips will be popular for spring 2016 for a sweet daytime look.

A Bold Lip
Save: Rimmel Moisture Renew Back to Fuchsia ($7)
Splurge: Urban Decay Anarchy ($22)
I think this is one of those trends that works best if you go into a store and have an expert color match what’s best for you. Fairer-skinned ladies should stay more toward the pink end of the spectrum, while ladies with darker complexions can ramp it up a notch into the more magenta hues. I have to give a shout-out to Charlie at Sephora for talking me through these spring trends!

Show-Stopping Lashes
Maybelline The Mega Plush Volume Express in Blackest Black ($6)
Big lashes are in for spring, but really in the Lone Star State big lashes are in every season, every year. This mascara has been on the market about two years, and I just discovered it. I normally use a more expensive brand, and I think it just got replaced with this guy. The brush bristles are especially great for diving into the base of the lash line. If you’re looking for a new gem at the drugstore, this might be it!

I think I’ll celebrate the start of spring by venturing into unknown territory — a bold pink lip color. Will your makeup bag celebrate spring too?
