#erasekidcancer, Peter Pan, and Cook Children’s Health Foundation

PrintNearly a century ago, the first children’s hospital in Fort Worth opened with 30 beds and a promise to provide every child in the area access to medical care. From these humble beginnings Cook Children’s has grown to become one of the largest and most recognized freestanding children’s health care systems in the southwest. But one thing remains the same: Its promise made long ago, and the intent to keep for generations to come.

Knowing that every child’s life is sacred, Cook Children’s Health Foundation embraces an inspiring promise to improve the health of every child in its region through the prevention and treatment of illness, disease, and injury.

As DFW grows, so does the need for quality pediatric health care. To fulfill its promise, Cook Children’s must also grow to reach children throughout North Texas. Its medical center offers surgeries, treatment for life threatening-illnesses, and everything in between. Its neonatal intensive care unit offers all single rooms so parents can stay with their baby 24/7. They are bringing specialty care to rural areas, operating neighborhood clinics in underserved locations, and taking health care directly to kids with home health services.

Generous donors have made it possible for Cook Children’s to expand services and offer the latest in technology and research while providing compassionate care to children and families throughout our service area.

As a not-for-profit organization, Cook Children’s relies on philanthropic contributions to support its promise to improve the health of every child in our region.

Improving the well-being of children and delivering quality health care is made possible by the Printgenerous and caring people, businesses, foundations, and organizations that support Cook Children’s Medical Center. Its donors not only help Cook Children’s fulfill its promise, but they also bestow an investment in the future of our community.

When individuals give, they are helping the children who come to Cook Children’s receive expert care from board certified pediatric specialists, technology and research, and a family-centered environment of care to help them get well. Cook Children’s is the beneficiary of a variety of events throughout the year held by individuals, community groups, and businesses. Events range in scope from school projects, 5K fun runs, and golf tournaments, to business grand openings and much more.

The Peter Pan Birthday Club

DSC_0231James V. Hart, screen play writer of the movie Hook, and his daughter, Julia, founded the Peter Pan Birthday Club. Julia took a tour of a children’s hospital and instantly wanted to give back to the patients – at that moment, the Peter Pan Birthday Club was  formed. Cook Children’s was the pilot hospital for the program in 2001 and has now spread across the country at other local children’s hospitals and organizations.

Cook Children’s Peter Pan and Forever Young Birthday Clubs are a great way to practice philanthropy together as a family! The birthday child has a birthday party every year, but instead of receiving birthday gifts for themselves, they ask their party guests for monetary donations to help support the patients at Cook Children’s. Each member receives a “birthday in a box,” which includes invitation inserts, monetary donation envelopes, and thank you cards. They will also receive a tour at the time of donation drop off, an invitation to the annual Birthday Party at Cook Children’s, and recognition on the Birthday Club donor wall.

#erasekidcancer

If Cook Children’s Health Foundation had one wish it would be that no child would ever have to fight cancer. That’s why it’s asking you to join forces with Cook Children’s oncologists, researchers, patients, and families to help make that wish come true. There’s a lot we can do, so let’s spread the word to help make childhood cancer disappear.

The funds it raises together will support life-saving research, treatments, technology, and programs for the young patients and their families at Cook Children’s in Fort Worth, Texas. What we do today will help #erasekidcancer for future generations.
