A Fort Worth Father’s Day

1

Dads are pretty awesome people. I have an amazing father who still helps me when I ask even though I’m a “grown up” now. He is also a terrific grandfather. My husband is my boys’ favorite person and the one they ask for when they wake every morning. Yup, I’m a big fan of dads.305089_10101134666880350_1772218328_n

Whether it is your father, grandfather, uncle, spouse, co-parent, or close friend, the father figures in your life (and your chidren’s lives) deserve recognition and appreciation. Now I don’t think that June 21 is the ONLY time to honor and say thanks, but it does happen to be Father’s Day this year. Seize the day and come up with something your favorite dad would love the most. If that means getting out and about around Fort Worth, then check out some of these fun places or events!

Jazz Sunday at Sundance Square:  A free outdoor concert at Sundance Square that is fun for the whole family. Bring blankets and chairs and enjoy the music stylings of Common Ground from 3:00-4:30 p.m. at Sundance Square. No outside food or drink allowed.

Founder’s Plaza at DFW Airport: For the aviation enthusiast, or just a dad who thinks airplanes are cool, go out to Founder’s Plaza just north of DFW Airport. It’s an outdoor viewing area where you can listen to air traffic control as you watch planes land and take off. There’s plenty of room for kids to run around, so pack a picnic, bring a blanket, and enjoy some time watching the planes go by!

Lone Star Park:  Enjoy a Sunday brunch in the Silks Dining room, and live Thoroughbred racing. The typical Sunday discounts apply, 62 and older and military members receive free general admission as does anyone who brings a Pepsi can to the gates. Gates open at 11:30 a.m. and first race is at 1:35 p.m.

Levitt Pavilion: Another great option for music lovin’ dads (and their toddlers who love to dance) can be found in Arlington. Grab a blanket and a pizza and head out to  Levitt Pavilion for one of their free summer concerts. Father’s Day welcomes Gedeon Luke and the People at 8:00 p.m.

Movie Tavern: With several locations in the DFW area, Movie Tavern’s Breakfast and a Flick is a fun spin on Sunday morning breakfast. At 9:00 a.m., the theater shows a movie and offers a special breakfast menu. Movie offerings differ depending on theater and will be posted the week before.

Cabela’s: Cabela’s honors fathers for a whole week. “Bring Dad to Cabela’s” starts the Sunday before Father’s day. From June 14 to June 20, 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., Cabela’s has lots of different activities for the outdoors lovin’ dad to enjoy.

Father’s Day Family Fun Run 5k: For the active dad and family, sign up for this local race on Saturday, June 20 at 8:00 a.m.! In addition to the 5k, there is also a 1k option to appeal to all ages and fitness levels and other activities to engage with your family.

LegoLand and SeaLife Aquarium: These Grapevine attractions want every dad to have a good time on Father’s Day, so they are offering free admission for fathers with the purchase of a full price admission. Decide if the dad in your life is more of a builder or a fisherman and pick the spot that is right for your family!

NRH2O:  NRH2O is offering dads free admission on Father’s Day as well! All dads must be accompanied by a child, so one free dad per child admission. Make sure to check i421833_10101679304841510_385492099_nn at the ticket booth even if you’re free before you enjoy lots of splashtime fun!

No matter what you do on Father’s Day, if it’s going out for fun activities, or staying in and eating pancakes, the most important thing is to appreciate the fathers in your life and make them feel loved. After all the fun and games, maybe let them take a nap. Lots of dads love naps.
